The planned public use of Villa Esche in the future necessitated structural interventions which required extremely cautious and sensitive handling of the original materials.

For example, load-bearing ceilings and stair elements had to be adapted to accommodate the increased traffic load associated with public use. As the villa did not have a continuous staircase which was suitable for use as an emergency escape route, it was necessary to construct a new, fire-proof staircase with a lift for disabled access. Placement could only occur at the north-east side, where the ancillary rooms lay one on top of the other. In addition, modern toilet facilities, accessible routes for people with reduced mobility and modern building services with underfloor heating and air-conditioning system were installed.
